![]() ![]() I always thought it would be nice to have more anime adaptations or something that showed off the more idyllic part of the setting, Mega Man's life between Dr. Light could have sent any of them out to save the day if they were the one Dr. The option to play as other characters is based in the reasoning that Dr. They're not actually evil by nature, they just have zany personalities and have been led to think that it's Mega Man that's bad. Mega Man is set out by his dad to go stop his eight younger brothers who are up to no good, but he doesn't want to hurt them. While Mega Man games had gradually been trying to interject more character into the bosses since the PlayStation 1 or so, in this one they're basically a hypnotized dom com cast. But in the first game specifically, he reprograms the robots that he built together with Dr. Wily created as part of his scheme of world domination, sometimes unrelated robots that he reprogrammed. If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, while in most classic Mega Man games the bosses that you fight are the robots that Dr. I don't think my reaction was that strong, but I recently have been playing around with Mega Man Powered Up on my Vita and was surprised at how much its approach the characters was informed by the unique circumstances in the original Mega Man's plot. I stopped my playthrough halfway through Sumeru / while Raiden/Yoimiya were on banner and I genuinely can't say that I found Paimon to be the problem it was never 'Paimon, shut up!' but it was always 'yo, is this cutscene STILL going?' and that was consistent whether Paimon was interjecting or not, which was doubly annoying because Mondstadt > Inazuma is painfully boring writing. When I played recently, I was still in the prologue while Lyney was on banner, so swapping back and forth between early game Paimon and current Paimon was noticable. I do agree that them forcing her to raise her pitch has been a net downgrade though. More often than not, Paimon says the same thing I was gonna say anyway, so we align more often than we don't in that regard. I don't disagree that the way they handle the Traveler is lame as hell, but I find that whatever issue I would have with Paimon comes squarely down to the issues I have with Hoyoverse writing in general where ALL of their dialogue takes 3x longer than it needs to if MHY didn't love to sniff their own farts in every cutscene, there wouldn't be so much to hate, which does infinitely more harm to whatever story they're trying to tell than Paimon, imo. Even more baffling that they don't considering they have the VAs for Lumine and Aether do new lines here and there and also for livestreams. I wish Hoyo had gone the Granblue Fantasy Relink route and let their MCs be fully voiced while also having the mascot character in Vyrn interject here and there without being overbearing. I don't have anything against Paimon as a character, but the way they utilize her in the game is way too prevalent and actively harms the game's story / quests. Not to mention her being at the forefront of every quest means that the more serious moments are never given the proper weight they're meant to have because she'll be squeling and giving ridiculous commentary that ruins the moment. If she only interjected occasionally it'd be ok but the vast majority of people who play Genshin long term are just tired of Paimon. They actually at one point made her voice even more high-pitched and squealing than it was for Y1 of Genshin. As a result Paimon basically speaks for the Traveler at all times, which means it's CONSTANT dialogue from Paimon, and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Paimon gets a bad rep because Lumine/Aether are silent protagonists until Hoyo decides to give them a couple lines for a big patch and then proceeds to make them mute for another year again. Paimon's the only character from that game that I'm legitimately like 'I'll miss her', lol. On the opposite end, Lumine/Aether get a lot of love as the generic self-insert protags with slight world relevancy, but they're boring as hell (as well as most of the Genshin cast in general tbh). She's kind of mean at times, kind of greedy and a bit over it at times and often calls out the other characters in some way for them being annoying too. Genshin's dialogue writing is absolutely boring drivel that goes on way too long, so Paimon serves to both give you a quick summary on the oft-occuring time you're probably gonna have your eyes glaze over as well as actually having a noticeable and entertaining personality. Anime Mascot characters are a dime-a-dozen and Paimon gets a bad rap for being annoying and babying the player in the dialogue, but from what I've experienced when I actually gave the game a solid chance, she's easily the best part of the writing for, at the very least, up to Sumeru.
